Understanding Horse Leases
Lease a Horse, Share the Responsibility, Experience the Joy
For many horse lovers, owning a horse isn’t always practical. A horse lease offers the next best thing, often called partial ownership, allowing you to build a meaningful partnership with a horse without the full financial commitment of ownership.
At Zuma’s, our lease program is designed to create a true relationship between the horse and the human. A lease is not simply paying for saddle time. It is about participating in the daily care and well-being of the horse you partner with.
When you lease a horse, you become an active part of that horse’s life. Your responsibilities include:
• Grooming and bonding time
• Cleaning the horse’s paddock in ALL weather, not shying away in snow and rain
• Filling hay nets and helping with feeding routines
• Holding the horse for the veterinarian and farrier
• Paying for the farrier services for your lease horse
• Ensuring your horse receives consistent attention and care
This hands-on involvement creates something much deeper than a casual riding experience. You learn the rhythms of your horse, their personality, their needs, and their trust.
For many riders, leasing becomes the perfect bridge between riding lessons and full ownership, providing the joy of partnership while sharing responsibility.
For our rescued horses, it means something equally important:
consistent care, dedicated human connection, and another person invested in their wellbeing.
Leasing a horse at Zuma’s helps support the Healing Herd while allowing you to experience what it truly means to have a horse in your life.
If you’ve ever dreamed of having a horse of your own, leasing may be the perfect place to start.
