Zuma's plays a critical role in rehabilitating horses

As of September 17,2009 Zuma's has 25 rescues in care

                                                     Costing Zuma's..........

$3,525.00 per month in hay,  Not to mention grain, supplements, vet and farrier care

then there are staggering facility expenses, Insurance, property taxes and utilities.

                           Lucky was at Zuma's December 2nd 2009- April 16th 2010

This is Lucky and he is a Lucky boy today.  Found on a craigslist ad "Free Horse" Lucky had not been so lucky, free horses most always head to a kill buyer and then off to a Slaughter House in Mexico or Canada.
This 12-15 year old thoroughbred gelding arrived to Zuma's in pretty bad shape; malnourished by about 200 lbs, full of parasites, cracked hooves, and horrible teeth. His teeth were in such bad shape that on his first night with food, Luck choked and need emergency veterinary care.
Today Dec. 3rd Lucky will get his badly needed dental work, then Lucky can begin his road to recovery.

So many horses in need, won't you consider helping with a simple monthly donation.

UPDATE
Lucky has had his teeth floated and can eat now with no problem, he has also been wormed and is parasite free. The best news for Lucky is that he has been sponsored by Paulett Dyon! This guy is living up to his name!

UPDATE
We tragically lost Lucky on April 16th 2010, Lucky had a very bad heart defect and was lost due to complications from a bout with colic. Lucky was a mentor to several of our kids in the Experiential Learning Program, He is very sadly missed.

128,833 American horses are slaughtered for human consumption outside of the United States each year and 34,796 horses were exported out of the United States for slaughter last year. That is a total of 163,629 horses viciously killed by foreign countries for food.

Man and his horses are partners, not predatory combatants to one another.

Horses have since the beginning of time been service animals for man, in no way should horses be thought of as a food source.

Horses began life in the U.S. as Native American means of transportation.
For the early American explorers, our county was discovered by way of the horse
from transportation, physical labor, battle to entertainment; horses are a persistent aspect of our past, present and future.

We at Zuma's Rescue Ranch work hard to save as many horses as we can. We also promote education to horse owners about responsible breeding practices, adequate health care and proper nutrition for their equine partners.

Horses that have served the needs of a person or family for years and years should not be cast off and/or sent to auction. This is the time when the equine partner need their owners love and care the most. Owners need to learn how to retire their equine pet with dignity as one would hope they would retire and care for any other family member.

Please visit our Volunteer page to see how you can get involved in caring for these magnificent creatures and providing them with the love and care they so deserve.
